  • Bobbye Mathews is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana (LA) by way of Las Cruces, New Mexico (NM). He grew up in the church and says that from his earliest memories, he knew that God exists. Years later, after receiving Bible-based teaching, he could say that Psalm 19:1 is true. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament showeth his handiwork.”

During his early years, he always attended church because that's what his parents did. As he grew, met, and married his wife in 1982, Marietta Mathews, three children who are now adults were born to this union. Early in his marriage he adopted as his scripture to live by, “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways (James1:8). This scripture reminds him of who he belongs to and keeps him grounded.

He has served in many capacities in the churches that he has attended. As a youth (Camphor Memorial United Methodist Church (LA), he could be found doing, usually, what youth do: Sunday School, Ushering, Plays, etc.

Durng his time as a young adult and adult (Bethel Second Baptist Church in NM), he became a Deacon and also served as a Trustee. He was a member of the choir, served as a leader for youth activities, and often chaperoned youth for their District, State and National activities.

He is Co-Deacon at ABC and is (or has) served as the Deacon over Finances, Men's Choir, Greeter, Sunday School Teacher, Visitation Committee, Men's Ministry, Evangelism Team, Program Planner, and other capacities when needed.

Deacon Bobbye, (as he's sometimes called), believes that being a part of a Bible believing church is a matter of (eternal) life or (eternal) death.
